Hello StreamCAD!

The purpose of this blog is to have an open forum where StreamCAD can be discussed. I’ll post questions about future directions and lists of bugs.

Hello. I’m excited about your project. I use OSX and we desperately need good CAD apps for the platform that can natively handle .dwg/.dxf files. Those of us who deal with ACAD users on a daily basis are crippled by this gaping hole in the Mac CAD market! Import/export is just not practical for production use. If StreamCAD can offer a substantial amount of the features of ACAD LT for a reasonable price, then it will do very well in this market. Personally, the two items that are at the top of my list are native .dwg/.dxf file handling (preferably that could be set as the default file format in the preferences menu) and ACAD-like printing functionality. The ability to draw once and print multiple documents with different scales, views and titleblocks is very powerful and efficient. I don’t know what patents or licenses are involved in this (if any), but if you can get those two items implemented without much hastle, it would definitely be worth it. Keep up the good work!

Paperspace, views and titleblocks are at the top of the list.

In a DWG, title blocks are created using block references. For every attribute definition in the block definition, an attribute is created and attached to the block reference. My design problem is this: do I use the kind of weak reference used in a DWG (just a simple text string, needn’t be decisive) or do I create something better? Do I settle for improvement or DWG compatibility?

I just downloaded today, the OS X version. It keeps crashing on me. I am using 10.5.5 on an Intel Mac Pro2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Zeon. 5 GB memory.

Help definitely needs some expansion especially for command line input. I am using ACAD LT 2007 for PC work from other Architects. I prefer the Mac OS but am tied to ACAD for inter-relationships with PC based Architects. Your application would be a god send if it can work with DWG directly. I use Fusion 2.0 and Windows XP on my Macbook Pro to do ACAD work.

StreamCAD is a multithreaded CAD program, even more so on a Mac where graphics is being generated in a thread of it’s own (on a PC, it’s running with the IU).

The Mac version is being developed on a MacBook Pro. I’ve seen a single crash in what looked like a possible multithread problem but I’ve been unable to reproduce it. It seems that your eight core Mac Pro is better at reproducing the problem. Would you mail a crash report to me at “support at streamspace.com”?

    Thanks!
    Henrik
